Before his death, Lucius was a friend of Hayate when they were both alive. In order of a wish from Lucius to get Hayate into heaven, Lucius calls out a devil in exchange for himself to go to hell. Hayate made a deal with his sin, this time to save Lucius from getting his soul taken. He has to collect the soul of Empress Madonna in order to 'save' Lucius from his sin.

Prologue[]

In the prologue, Lucius is a prisoner and also with a mysterious kid named "Cyan". He pretends to be the Fourth Court Lady and tries to escape but the soldiers revealed that Lucius was a male. In the episode, he's shown to be able to use magic and looks more mature.

In Life[]

Lucius was born into the wealthy Serenato family. His parents secretly ran a flourishing opium business that they meant for him to inherit when he grew up. However, Lucius was not academically inclined and enjoyed art instead.

Lucius met Hayate at the military camp after his kite flew past the gate. He asked Hayate to return it and gave him a piece of candy in return before he was dragged away by his parents.

After that, during a church service, Hayate's plane crashed near the church. As Hayate recovered, Lucius took him in. They developed a close relationship, where Hayate taught him math and let Lucius use him as a drawing muse. They also shopped together on the streets. A servant of the family shared that Lucius was shunned by peers due to his oddities, and that his parents worried for him and made attempts to steer him away from his interests. Hayate sympathized with this.

However, due to a series of attacks and threats by Hayate's former comrades, Hayate was forced to betray the Serenato family to save Lucius, As the family evacuated, Japanese tanks were deployed. His mother pushed him out of the car just before their car was bombed, killing both his parents and the driver.

Traumatised, Lucius attempted to pray at the church, only to find the pastor dead by Hayate's sword. He found Hayate and begged him to accept God, but Hayate refused. Lucius eventually prayed to sacrifice himself for Hayate, selling his soul to the white devil.

After Death[]

After Lucius died, his wishes and sins manifested into Lucius' Sin, or also known as the White Demon. His soul rests in the possession of the White Demon, which Hayate tries to retrieve. The White Demon makes a contract with Hayate: he will not eat Lucius' soul if only Hayate brings him the soul of The Empress of Phantom Paradise in exchange. Hayate agrees, and he enters Phantom Paradise without hesitation.
